Amigurumi Crochet Fly Coaster

Español Français

Flies are home all over the the world, but together with mosquitoes they are usually among the more annoying insects in the animal kingdom.

Even though I am an animal lover, I prefer to have my flies lying flat and motionless in front of me instead of on my food or in my drink … but preferably under my drink.

This amigurumi fly coaster is not buzzing around but serves a real purpose and keeps every surface dry from your cold drinks, no matter how cold they are.

If you do not like sewing you will love this pattern, everything is crocheted together except the fly eyes. Minimum sewing effort, more fun.

The depicted crochet coaster was crocheted using the “Schachenmayr Catania” yarn and a 2.5 mm crochet hook and has a diameter of 9.5 cm.

This crochet coaster is crocheted with chain stitches, slip stitches and single crochet stitches in spiral rounds and rows and is almost completely crocheted together and needs hardly any sewing.

Assembling the Amigurumi Fly Coaster

Assembling: You have crocheted 7 single crochet stitches on the body of the fly. The remaining stitches to finish the circle are used to attach the head and wings of the fly to the body.

The parts are simply crocheted together as described below. Apart from the eyes nothing needs to be sewn on.

Start by pushing the crochet hook through the next stitch and through the outermost right stitch of the head. Use the stitches you crocheted to close the head. Push into the stitches at the head from “above”, see the pictures as a reference.

After you have pushed through both stitches, yarn over, pull the thread through both stitches and crochet a slip stitch. With this the head is already attached to the body.

Next, the first wing will be attached. The beginning of the wing consists of three stitches. Position the wing as in the pictures to attach it correctly.

Push through the next stitch on the body, then through the outermost right stitch of the wing (make sure the wing is in the correct position) and then further through the next stitch on the head. Yarn over, pull the thread through all three stitches and crochet a slip stitch again.

Now repeat this for the 2nd and 3rd stitch on the wing (again push through body, wing and head). The first wing is now firmly attached to the head and body.

Next you push only through the next stitch on the body and the next stitch on the head, pull the thread through both stitches and crochet a slip stitch.

Now the second wing will be attached. Pay attention again to the correct position of the wing and push through the next stitch on the body, through the outermost right stitch on the wing and the next stitch on the head. Yarn over, pull through all three stitches and crochet 1 slip stitch. Repeat this for the next 2 stitches.

Both wings are now firmly and securely attached to the body and head. Finally, push through the next stitch on the body and the last stitch on the head, yarn over, pull through and crochet 1 slip stitch.

Finally crochet 7 single crochet stitches along the body and finish with 1 slip stitch. Cut the thread and weave in. The Fly Coaster is almost done.

Eyes: Finally, sew the eyes onto the top of the head.

Done is the crocheted, double layered and super absorbent Amigurumi fly coaster.
