The koala, the most cozy and cuddliest symbol of Australia. These nocturnal animals cannot see very well, but they can hear all the better and thanks to their big and very sensitive nose they always know about everything that happens in their environment. The sense of smell also helps the koala to find the perfect eucalyptus.
To avoid having to travel to Australia to see a koala, simply crochet this little companion. And to make sure that the koala doesn’t get hungry, you can add the eucalyptus branch directly to it.
This crochet koala is crocheted with chain stitches, slip stitches, single crochet stitches and half double crochet stitches in spiral rounds and in rows and is easy to crochet.
The depicted amigurumi koala has been crocheted with the “Schachenmayr Catania” yarn with a 2.5 mm crochet hook and has sitting a height of 4.5 cm.

Assembling
Legs: After you’ve finished crocheting all pieces, start sewing the legs onto the body. Start sewing the first leg onto the body directly over the edge that was created by the round that was crocheted only into the back loop. Sew on the second leg 4 to 5 stitches left or right from the first leg, again just over the edge.
Arms: Sew the arms left and right onto the body, 1 stitch row under the “neck”. Do not sew the arms directly over the legs but slightly behind the legs.
Eyes: Attach the safety eyes after the 7th stitch row counting from the top center of the head. The eyes are 4 stitches apart from each other. Back to the crochet pattern.
Nose: Sew the nose vertically centered between the eyes.
Ears: Sew the ears right and left 3 stitch rows from the center of the head onto the head.
With a tapestry needle push a Creme colored thread through one stitch on the inside of the ear and let the tapestry needle emerge from another stitch close to the transition of the ear to the head. Pull the thread through the stitches.
Repeat this with the same stitch at the base of the head, but further up with stitches left and right next to the stitch you first pushed through. Pull the thread through enough stitches to create a circular pattern (see pictures).
Eukalyptus: Sew the eucalyptus to the koala’s right or left hand using a Moss colored thread. Let the end of the thread disappear in the koala’s arm.
