What is crocheting? Crochet is a handcraft that has been practiced since the 19th century, is relatively easy to learn and offers an almost infinite range of possibilities to create whatever you can imagine with some yarn and a crochet hook.
Origin of Crocheting
Crochet is a method of textile processing that has been prized and applied to historical finds since the year 1800.
Crocheting uses a crochet hook and a matching yarn to create stitches that create different structures and shapes through different types of stitches and techniques. In the beginning, crocheting was used primarily for making nets.
Instead of using two pointed needles, as is the case with knitting, crocheting uses only a single crochet hook. However, this is not as pointed at the end as knitting needles but has a hook at the end, which is why the term “needle” may be somewhat misleading. These hooks are used to pick up the yarn and create the crochet stitches.
Crocheting can produce much stronger/tighter stitches than knitting, which is why crocheted pieces are generally firmer/sturdier than knitted clothing.
But also soft, less solid structures can be crocheted with corresponding stitches.
There are of course many other factors such as the type of yarn, the size of the crochet hook used, the stitches used and the personal style of crocheting (firm or loose).
This is also the reason why you can easily create 3-dimensional objects such as baskets, amigurumi (small and large crocheted figures) and other household objects that retain their shape through the firm crochet stitches.
What do I need to Crochet?
Not much is needed to start crocheting, usually you just have to some yarn and a matching crochet hook and you’re ready to go.
All other utensils such as scissors and woolen needles are not badly needed for starters and you probably already have them in your household.

Endless Possibilities
Crochet offers you an almost infinite selection of items, garments, figures and household items that you can make yourself, not only on finished instructions but sooner or later according to your own ideas.
If you think crocheting can only be used to make garments then you are far off (a look at the content on this website should have given you some ideas on what’s possible).
You are not only able to make hats, ponchos, pants, jackets, and sweaters, but also all imaginable accessories. Be it bags, earrings, bracelets, headbands, rings, necklaces and everything else.
But in addition to the obvious jewelry and clothing items, crocheting also allows you to create a huge variety of different household items. Be it bookmarks, potholders, coasters, pencil cases, laptop bags, pen holders, boxes and baskets, etc.
But this is not the end, because there is still the crocheting of Amigurumi. This is the creation of figures and dolls, plants and food, just everything that does not necessarily always have its own function in itself, but usually looks all the cuter.
Crocheting amigurumi alone gives you a countless number of motives and ideas that do not always have to have a practical use. You are able to crochet animals, monsters, objects, comic characters and movie characters in all sizes, colors, and shapes.
Here some Amigurumi examples:
Your crochet hook and yarn will be, so to speak, the painter’s canvas and brush, with which you can let your imagination run free.
You see, learning how to crochet will give you endless possibilities to express yourself creatively and not just in the form of hats and scarves.
I wish you a lot of fun and success on your journey on learning how to crochet, you will not regret it.
